Active 10
Satmap Active 10 Gps
The Active 10 is a GPS navigation system that has been custom designed for use in any outdoor activity and any environment where the person requires a highly accurate mapping system. The Satmap has been built to be as tough as possible and engineered to rise to the challange of the ourdoor world. At the same though users do need to remember that the Satmap Active 10 is still a fairly complex and sensitive bit of kit and should be treated accordingly.
Satmap Active 10 Safety Tips
a) Because the Satmap Active 10 GPS is an electronic device you shouldn't need reminding that over a period of use the Satmap system will eventually run flat. Its important for users to remember that spare batteries should be carried because whilst the Active 10 is certainly a market leading navigation tool, its only able to assist the user if its turned on!The battery life in the Satmap unit has designed to be very good but its always better to be safe rather than lost on a mountain in the dark.
b) Spare Mapping: It may be advisable to always have a back up map available for your Satmap 10 in the event of the worst case scenario and the Satmap fails, is broken or runs out of juice. If undertaking any form of activity where there might be a chance of there not being many people around its always better to prepare for the worst.
c) Accuracy: It is important that you understand the accuracy of any GPS is variable. The Active 10 GPS system uses triangulation on a constellation of satellites circling the earth to determine position on the ground. There are a number of factors which can reduce the accuracy of this position information, including poor weather, a limited view of the sky (e.g. in a building, urban / natural canyons, under a tree canopy, etc), metallised glass (such as a car windscreen), etc. You may also notice a variable performance from one day to the next. This is due to the fact that the position of the satellites relative to the ground can change, resulting is a different triangulation value.Understanding this variability in the accuracy is important when enjoying outdoor sports in the proximity of dangerous features(e.g. cliffs, marsh, rivers, lakes, etc) as users must still apply safe practice, be aware of the weather conditions and their own abilities in order to avoid unnecessary risks and dangers.
d) Battery charging: If you are using the Lithium Polymer battery option supplied by Satmap Systems Ltd, it is extremely important that you must only USE THE CORRECT CHARGERS (i.e. wall charger, car charger, etc), as supplied with the battery. Failure to do so is
potentially dangerous, may damage the Active 10, and is a breach of Warranty.
e) Basic Map reading: Whilst the Satmap Active 10 is a very easy and simple piece of technology to use the user will still require a basic understanding of OS mapping to fully understand what the Satmap is showing.A Satmap 10 user should be aware of the different sysmbols that a typical map displays and also understand the contour line system to help with understanding the terrain. By having a knowledge of these things the users experience of the Satmap Active 10 can only be enhanced.
Care For Your Satmap Active 10
a) Water: Whilst the Satmap is a waterproof system it is still an elctronic device and the two really shouldn't mix. All watertight seals need to be closed when in use to prevent contamination occuring.
b) If chaging over the Satmap 10 batteries or swopping over the map card you are using you will need to be aware that this is the time that the electical parts of the Active 10 are most vulnerable to water exposure. The three main target points are going to be the Sd memory card door, the USB connection door and also the battery back. If any of these are neglected then the Satmap can be effected. Should water or dust enter the Active 10, do not switch it back on until it has been completely dried out or the dust removed.
d) Map cards: It is very important to note that the map cards ARE NOT WATERPROOFED in any way, so you should endeavour to keep
them dry and clean at all times. NEVER insert a damp, wet or dirty map card into the Active 10.
