When the Satmap Active 10 was being designed, every part was produced to ensure thay the Satmap range was as adapted to its working environment as it could possibly be. This meant that it was a brand new design built specifically for the task of navigation in an outdoors environment.No compropise was reached to make sure that the Active 10 wasn't just a run of the mill PDA or Satnav system that had been adapted slightly for the target market.All components that are used in the Satmap 10 unit have been selected for their capabilities rather than cost.This can be seen in the Satmaps ability to operate on standard AA high street batteries - giving upto 60 hours use and also offering the user the choice to operate the Satmap Active 10 with a rechargeable battery system also.

The Satmap runs on a Windows CE based operating system but unlike other systems the Active 10 uses a toggle button interface rather than a touch screen menu such as those often found in Cat Satnav or handheld models.The Satmap Active 10 screen cover has been built using a polycarbonate material as found in riot shield construction.This is part of the Satmap 10 design that makes the Satmap unit so ideal for tough,outdoor use.These screens are also available as part of the Satmap Active 10 Accessoriesrange and can be swopped over quickly if covered in scratches for example.

Online connection

The Satmap Active 10 comes complete with a USB cable to connect the GPS system to a computer and the internet.This connectivity will allow Satmap users to download maps,upgrades and also to share routes with other Satmap 10 users. The possibilities are endless and ensure that the technology of the Active 10 will stay at the front of the pack.

International maps

The possible expansion of the Satmap system is endless due to the ability to swop over the maps on the memory card system. Satmap will be releasing many International maps throughout the year and so the Satmap range will become much bigger.This will mean world wide mapping for earth land and even the skys!The software has been designed to allow upgrades and enhancements to be downloaded onto the Satmap Active 10.

Electronic compass

The Satmap GPS system also contains the ability to flip onto an electronic compass for those who like the old school feel. The direction needle is displayed onscreen just the same as a normal compass would.

Route Information

Because the Satmap system is a GPS navigation unit the Active 10 will constantly record any data for the trip you are taking. This allows you to view important info such as speed,distance or altitude climbed.
