Satmap Active 10 Gps

Satmap Active 10 Gps

The Satmap Active 10 maps come ready to go on Sd memory cards that you simply push into the Satmap unit just as you would with your digital camera memory card. This area has also been designed to be waterproof to protect the Satmap system from being effected by any poor weather conditions. The Active 10 is also a Standalone system so you will no longer need to connect to a Pc to plan out your route as you would have had to do with rival GPS Navigation systems. Its as simple as turing on the system, plan the route on-screen and away you go.

Satmap are officially licensed partners of Ordnance Survey, and so the Satmap Active 10 reproduces the 1:25k Explorer and 1:50k maps impressively. Everything you can view on a paper map you will see on the Active 10 display screen. It will still be required that anyone using the Satmap system has a basic degree of ability when it comes to understanding the symbols and layout on Os maps.

Using the Satmap interface joystick, you can choose to pan across the entire map area as fast as you like. When you first push down on the joystick, the map image will move at a slow speed, allowing you to view your immediate area clearly. If you want to pan across larger areas, just hold the joystick down slightly harder in the right direction and it increases the pace of the movement.

You can zoom for better detail into all of the maps with the Active 10, so for example a 1:25k map can be enlarged to show a scale of 1:4k, giving you a very accurate map indeed. This is also helpfull when checking to see the oncomming terrain for example and obstacles such as small streams or crossings.

The Satmap Active 10 is also available as an add on for cyclists.Satmap have adapted the Active 10 to fit onto a purpose built accessory bike mount. They supply a new battery back that simply clips onto the Satmap Active 10, and which has a bike fitting integrated into the plastic. This then simply clips directly onto the bike mount, and needs no additional cradles or mounts. This item will make the Satmap an excellent navigation choice for those who are mountain biking a new area or on a cycle touring holiday. Its as simple as checking the Active 10 to make sure you are on the right track!

The unit itself has been tested down to -10 deg C, but as with all battery powered devices, the real problems at these temperatures is that batteries cease to operate effectively at very low temperatures.

If you don't have the local area map card loaded, you can also use the Active 10 just like an ordinary handheld GPS i.e. it shows routes, tracks, waypoints etc on a gray screen.
